I'll get over it. I think the looks on Pippins face when Denethor derides Faramir and sends him to certain death is the set up for him caring. What do you think of Tolkien on the silver screen...? Reddit gives you the best of the internet in one place. Surely the meal - eaten alone - is a sign of Denethor's remoteness and incipient madness.

If additional scenes appear in the EE, it can only enrich this.

Of course, it is a bit of a running joke with my friend and i, wondering what Gondor puts in their vegetables. How else can one view a father that sends his only living son to death? I liked how they protrayed Denethor. I was expecting the same thing with Denethor. he is adamant that HE is the ruler of gondor and more noble than any scion of an ancient but throneless royal house.

He sends his remaining son on a suicide mission then sits down to eat, careless of the implications, removed from the implications of his decisions.

And he eats in a mannerless way, crushing the fruits - were they meant to be tomatoes or some unknown berry - there are grapes being eaten too.
Very poignant. You guys are terrible ! | I'm remembering that Pippin was supposed to have been wearing Faramir's boyhood armor. Denethor was the first child and eldest son of Ecthelion II. I also loved the entrance of Gandalf and Pippin into Minas Tirith - brilliant. 1965 I mean, in the book's, Pippin's pledge of service was portrayed as POSITIVE and meaningful.

My impression from the book was that Pippin was more or less goaded into pledging his service by Denethor's obvious contempt for him. Producer | remember Sam in the book felt sorry for a Haradrim whom he never even spoke too.

Just because Pippin did not know Faramir would not mean he would not be real upset if he thought he would die. It is only later, after looking into the palantir, that Denethor loses hope and goes from depressed to insane. This is a major error by PJ. After all, The King of Gondor Supports KFC.

Oh, & there is hungrey also.


But I say this in defence of myself, and not a character form a movie. It was a good juxtaposition between Pippin's song, Denethor's meal, and Faramir's charge.
