The Phillispburg Mall, located on the tongue-twisting border of Lopatcong and Pohatcong in Warren County, sadly has a dark and depressing feel. Opacity is dedicated to documenting various abandoned places through both text and photographs; recording their transformations through time before they are demolished. Nearby Willowbrook, also in Wayne, spans a whopping 1.5 million square feet.

It might help that in the spring and summer the surrounding trees shade the building from prying eyes.The ruins of this church now serve as a house of worship for woodland creatures.The lines between building and nature are blurred in Walpack; nearly the entire town has been abandoned. That may be reassuring for some though it may be unsettling for others. Many of these buildings are on public property; as for the ones that aren’t, we’ll just have to live vicariously through these photos.In the end, nature always wins.
