In return, this action generated new demands for food, manufactured items ( which caused exportations to boom), and the elimination of unemployment by 1936. Other political changes were that all men over the age of 25 now had the right to vote, there was a national health insurance plan and they removed certain labor union restraints. Although popular elections continued to be held, their results were disregarded; businessmen supported the new regime out of fear or in anticipation of the profits to be secured from its adventures abroad.A cult of emperor worship grew, focusing popular loyalties on the divine mission of the emperor and ensuring popular submission to the will of those who ruled in his name. Japan’s economy grew much faster than the West due to their turn to industrialization in 1931. Between 1850 and 1950 (despite the intervening wars) the population soared from 32 million to 84 million. The suffrage was gradually extended, for example, and in 1925 all men received the right to vote; women were granted this right in 1949. These actions led Japan to fall into and economic crisis. The population was pressed to join Japanese people in training to “suffer” hardship and young men were forced into labor groups. Japan was an island that relied a lot on foreign trade to get the resources they need. With half of the factories in Japan closing, it left many people without jobs and a way to get food for their family.
The Japanese, too, pointed to their steadily growing population and did all they could to encourage its further growth.Having experienced 125 years of zero growth before 1853—during which time they had improved their standard of living, consolidated their natural resources, and begun to urbanize and accumulate capital—the Japanese were well into a sustained period of economic and population growth. Unfortunately Japan’s outstanding economy and their new political changes didn’t last long enough into the next decade. The government achieved this by increasing its spending to provide jobs. Putting their own words into the emperor’s mouth, the admirals and generals used his pronouncements to further their own ends. The consequence was a military dictatorship in Japan during the 1930s. These policies proved to be a durable future for Japanese society. Then in May 1932 a group of army officers murdered the current prime minister and attacked key government and banking officials. It found a potent political weapon in the institution of the emperor, who was supposed to possess the kind of political infallibility that Westerners had associated with a divine-right monarch. A new series of industrial policies were established by the Japanese in order to prevent social unrest. The suffrage was gradually extended, for example, and in 1925 all men received the right to vote; women were granted this right in … When the Great Depression hit the world this caused countries to no longer be able to import products from Japan, which is how Japan made up their economy from. Zaigai seifu shikin o chūshin ni (Political and economic policies after the Sino- and Russo-Japanese Wars and foreign public finance, 1896-1913. Japan - Japan - Demographic trends: Japan’s population distribution is highly variable. Japan made sure to tighten it’s hold on Korea and put an end to their culture. Alone among non-Western peoples, the Japanese maintained full political independence during the golden age of imperialism.More than that, as the twentieth century opened, Japan was experiencing the industrial revolution and advancing to the status of a great power, a full (if unwelcome) participant in the struggle for imperial position. This made Japan disappointed. The Japanese, too, harped on the overcrowding of the homeland, its inadequate resources, and its restricted markets.Behind these arguments lay real economic problems of sustaining the Japanese economy in the face of the depression and the worldwide disruption of international trade, problems of providing food and work for the population, which in 1930 numbered 60 million. In seeking to solve these problems by imperial expansion, the militarists of the 1930s were following a pattern that had already been set by the West.
