I think your interpretation works and I like the idea of "fiction as reality." I doubt it's a real weapon. There are many instances of distortions/reflections of reality throughout the novel.

I'm fairly convinced Delany managed to capture much of what the 60s was like. moment and it will negatively affect your reading experience of the novel if you expect a clear and resolute ending.Beyond the more formal elements mentioned above, this is by far Delany's most sophisticated work in terms of theme as well. There's a bunch of interesting stuff going on, some of which is explained and a lot of which you simply have to speculate about. I think I need to re-read the encounter between Kid and Calkin's voice and his letter to Kid after the party.-Seems like this character is loaded with symbolism.
