The before section is a solidifying look at the factors that led to the attack, particularly on the Japanese side (the military control of the government, the oil embargo that left Japan with little choice but to make a major move, the serious doubts amongst Japanese experts, which proved to be correct, that Japan could not inevitably win a war against the United StateA complete survey of the before, during, and after of the event of the attack on Pearl Harbor. The Pearl Harbor attack was not the first all-aircraft ship-to-ship battle in history (the British had attacked the Italian fleet at Taranto in November, 1940, and with great success), and Gen. MacArthur's first name was Douglas, not George! I highly enjoyed reading about the attack on Pearl Harbor in depth. Without giving away spoilers, Nelson reveals that the Japanese war leaders were even more duplicitous and, as FDR famously put it, dastardly than was previously known in regards to their diplomatic dealings with the USA. The fact checker? I wanted to learn more about WW2 in the Pacific Arena. Build it up a little bit to talk about how it got to that situation, but do it in less than 200 pages. That part was a little slow--interesting, but you have to be committed.
I could go on in greater detail, but it's late as I write this and I don't want to write a long essay. All too often, books written about interesting historical subjects are dry and hard to read. Nelson gives sufficient graphic details to make the reader truly understand that 'no one wins a war'. However, Nelson covers hundreds of individual stories without embellishment. What complicates a positive review is that no new ground is covered. Even ignoring the civilians and the enemy, the military dead in the first part added to the ones dead in the second part that would make something good. It is no surprise after reading 'Pearl Harbor' that the United States invests so heavily in its military and according to Nelson exceeds the annual budgets of the next eight countries in military spending. So chapter "Triumph". In an instant, war began for America. The book continued with the war after Pearl Harbor. 1451660499 You will not find 'interesting life stories' as much as you will find ample information for a term paper. Overall, this book was very intriguing. The book continued with the war after Pearl Harbor. It starts about 1-2 years prior to the war with the diplomatic relations between US and Japan and Japan's invasion of China. Welcome back. This one is pretty evenly set in both Japanese and American points of view.
In this book the author combines properly sourced scholarship with a novelist's flair, making this tragic, infuriating, heroic, and thought-provoking subject seem real and immediate to a twenty-first century reader. There is no authorial synthesis of opinions here! December 7th, produced on behalf of the U.S. government and directed by acclaimed cinematographer Gregg Toland, is a dramatization of the events that precipitated the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. In an instant, war began for America. Not in the same detail, of course, but very helpful to put events in cGetting ready to visit Pearl Harbor. The fact checker? That is not always a great thing. A tale of war and romance mixed in with history. Yet it happened and the U.S. was woefully unprepared and thousands died. Historic archival films, including recently discovered color footage, plus dramatic recreations highlight this presentation, which also deals with some of the controversial questions surrounding the attack. The first part, about the diplomatic back-and-forth that led up to the event, was confusing, but I suspect that's no fault of the author: the negotiations actually WERE confusing, even duplicitous on the part of the Japanese. For the first time since it was destroyed in 1941, scientists have the technology to take an in-depth ... is a gripping account by an American hero. I wanted a comprehensive history, one that covered the lead-up to Pearl Harbor (including the intelligence failures that allowed the Japanese to land such a devastating surprise blow) and a narrative of the battle itself. But the writing was a little off for me.
