I miss the 'music' in Waters' solo output.
Roger’s “Radio KAOS” and “Amused to Death” albums were both BRILLIANT and to a slightly lesser extent, I really enjoyed David’s first two solo albums as well.
Waters for me the key ingredient in Floyd. "Amused To Death" was a return to form though. Baffling shows! But they knew what the audience wanted. However, I do think he needed the equilibrium the other members of Pink Floyd brought to the table, and indeed the sound of both Wright and Gilmour is missing in his solo work. But Floyd was not necessarily a good band post-Waters. Frankly, that would be terrifying!Where's a music based Jeremy Kyle series when you need one!
cheers for stopping by!Minor nit-picks: _Edge of Darkness_ was broadcast in 1986 (not really the “early” ’80s) and its soundtrack, while featuring Eric Clapton on guitar, does not include any saxophone.the box set and reissue music site for fans who love holding the music in their hands Amused To Death was as good as anything Floyd put out, but excuse the pun...the sum of all parts meant that even Wright, Gilmour and Mason would not have had massive success either in a solo capacity, I don't think. There is hope and at least a search for happiness, whereas Waters remains forever cynical, forever negative: no balance. The other album Roger had made demos for was an even more personal concept album called The Pros and Cons of Hitch Hiking, which ended up being developed into his first solo album, and featured Eric Clapton on guitar. In 1985, Waters bitterly departed Pink Floyd to pursue a solo career. He was still the same songwriter, but his following solo albums suffered in sales and, generally, were not well received by Floyd fans. PF post-Waters tried to revive the sonic adventures of their 1970's albums and the visual tricks from the live shows (flying pig, flying bed above the stadium which ignites fireworks once reaching the stage, the biggest lightshow ever etc. His solo work all three in fact great albums. When you listen to The Final Cut you realize even without Wright how beautiful an album it is. The production work is rich and layered from Patrick Leonard, who is best known for his work with Madonna in the eighties (but whose CV also includes a Pink Floyd writing credit onWaters’ has never been the best singer, but he has a voice that is the perfect tool for conveying emotion – Waters’ fairly well-received French Revolution opera from 2005 is a 2CD package which completes this box set.The individual discs are contained within a nicely designed ‘lift off lid’ box, and each album comes in a mini-LP style card sleeve.
Pros and Cons was amazing, much more gutsy than KAOS. None of the CDs have inner sleeves or an individual booklets but it has to be said that the artwork reproduction is solid enough. If you do put the ‘work’ in, it has it’s rewards, but with the over-dramatic sax (The album where everything finally seemed to come together nicely. "If these songs weren't good enough for 'The Wall' why are they good enough now? I've been there.
"Radio Waves" 4:58 2. I'm hoping when he finally gets around to releasing "Homeland" it'll show there's life beyond "The Wall".But what Pink Floyd really needed was a manager to point out how well they worked together, and how the band was bigger than the four of them. In their ability to recreate Floyd both past and present post Floyd was still a great band live. Too much talk-singing with little or no room for any musical spaces in between. A ranking of solo albums by members of Pink Floyd, listed from worst to best. The grumpy one from Pink Floyd collects together his solo output in this great value box set.
Drifted off. Gilmour once referred to himself as "a fatalist, but a happy fatalist", and I think this comes across in Floyd post-Waters. Frankly I have never been a fan of Water's vocals or bass playing....I think they are both very average. He has come up with some good lyrics and concepts over the Floyd years and that's where he was always the best imo. "Radio Kaos" had a germ of a good idea but it was let down by no real musical ideas and terrible writing. Everyone , I'm sure, is aware of the break of Roger Waters with Pink Floyd after the album The Final Cut.
